When Meg and I were little our grandparents used to own and operate the local Dairy Sweet, an ice cream and short order restraunt in Donnellson, Iowa. I recently found out that my Aunt Mari had a copy of the beef burger recipe that they used at the Dairy Sweet and asked her for a copy. Here's what Aunt Mari sent. (Not sure how many sandwiches this makes)
The original recipe was for 10 lbs of ground beef. I cut it in 1/4 & this is what I have on my recipe card.
2 1/2 lb ground beef 1 T dried onion 1 T salt 3/4 - 1 c. tomato juice 1/2 c. ketchup 1/2 c. flour
Brown ground beef adding onion & salt. Stir in flour, let it cook a few minutes. Add ketchup & tomato juice. Cook until grease is clear. Drain grease.
